Gym cleaning myths busted: What every gym owner needs to know about keeping their gym clean.

A clean gym interior

Ever gotten a bad online review because a gym goer didn’t think your gym was clean? Good, let’s keep it that way. It a sure-fire way to loose members.

A quick scroll of Google online reviews of gyms you’ll see an unclean gym prompts the bulk share of angry outbursts about gyms. You can’t get this wrong, people!

So, after years and years and years of cleaning gyms in Sydney and across inner Sydney, here’s what I’ve learned about keeping your gym clean.

  1. Use the right cleaning products: We used environmentally friendly Teresano Lotus® Pro, which infuses water with ozone to create a chemical free cleaner and sanitiser. It kills 99% of dodgy germs, bacteria, and viruses.

  2. Smell matters. Consider mopping with a sanitiser/deodoriser to give a sweet smell. Teresano is good to sanitise. Pay special attention to the shower and toilets.

  3. Clean every day! Professional cleans TWICE a week. Start with the high-touch areas, like doorknobs, light switches, and gym equipment handles. These areas tend to harbor the most germs and bacteria.

  4. Clean gym equipment: Make sure to pay attention to areas that come into direct contact with the user’s skin, such as benches, mats, weights, and handles of machines. Sweat can contain bacteria and viruses and sweat loves these areas.

  5. Vacuum and mop floors and use a vacuum cleaner to remove dirt and debris from the floor, followed by mopping with a disinfectant solution. Pay special attention to areas around toilets, showers, and sinks.

  6. Clean and disinfect changing rooms and showers: Changing rooms and showers are high-risk areas for the spread of germs and bacteria. Make sure to clean and disinfect these areas thoroughly.

  7. Wash towels and mats: Gym towels and mats should be washed regularly to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria.

Do this regularly. Like every day and you’ll be on a winner to great Google reviews. Or at least no bad ones. Phew!
